Learn More About Vinyl Flooring

WPC:

Q. What is WPC Vinyl flooring? (Or Engineered Vinyl flooring, Wood Plastic/Polymer Composite flooring)?

A. WPC Vinyl flooring is the next generation LVT. It is a composite material made of thermoplastics, calcium carbonate, foaming agent, etc. Today the WPC vinyl planks that the industry insiders talk about may not contain wood fiber, although the “W” in “WPC” stands for “Wood”. The basic structure is wear layer + vinyl top layer + extruded WPC core + underlayment(optional).

Q. What’s the difference between PVC and WPC?

A. WPC vinyl flooring is thicker than PVC. WPC uses the extruded plastic core that has lower density than vinyl core. Therefore, the planks can be made thicker. Also, because of the thickness and rigidity, WPC vinyl flooring can tolerate more subfloor imperfections and boasts higher dimensional stability. In addition, since WPC vinyl flooring is usually thicker than traditional LVT, the click lock tenors are bigger so the planks are easier to snap together and stay tight.

Q. Can the WPC vinyl flooring be used outdoors?

A. Yes, it is said on Floor Covering News that “WPC is also suitable for large open areas (basements and Main Street commercial areas) because it doesn’t need expansion moldings.”

Q. Is there any health issue related to PVC flooring?

A. While formaldehyde is a big concern over laminate flooring, phthalates is a serious concern over vinyl flooring. Phthalates are used to make plastics more pliant, yet they are endocrine disruptors, and some are even classified by EPA as possible carcinogens.

However, please rest assured that Eco-Pro Planet vinyl flooring is phthalates free. This is achieved by a combination of using 100% virgin PVC and excellent control over the product formulation.

Q. is WPC different from LVT?

A. This biggest difference is that WPC is waterproof, so it can be laid over most subfloors with little preparation. A typical traditional vinyl floor has flexibility that will show any unevenness in the subfloor. The rigid core of WPC flooring allows for longer and wider format options. Additionally, you do not need to worry as much about preparation of for use over cracks or divots in subfloors.

Q. Who should choose WPC flooring?

  • Parents. WPC vinyl is great for parents who want their home to look beautiful and not worry about the kiddos ruining their floors.
  • Pet owners. WPC vinyl won’t cause your pups to slip and slide the way laminate can. It’s 100% waterproof so accidents are easy to clean and it still looks as gorgeous as hardwood.
  • Business owners. Have you ever looked down at the floor in your doctor’s office, restaurant or even grocery store? You’ll see gorgeous wood-look flooring that somehow looks fantastic no matter what’s gone on there recently. Chances are it is WPC vinyl. We have some in our office and we find that business owners absolutely love it.
  • Everyone! There’s no wrong person when it comes to WPC vinyl!

Q. Why WPC not Laminate?

A. The answer is simple. Our WPC vinyl is 100% waterproof and made from recyclable materials. Traditional vinyl and laminate floors are not.
